The inaugural season of the Pittsburgh Flag Football Youth League ended in a way that many are not used to – The RAVENS beating the STEELERS in Pittsburgh. But with the, 30-27, win, the RAVENS can call themselves kings until next season.

“It feels good to win because the last flag football team I played on, we didn’t do very good,” Quarterback Khalil Weathers said. “But it also feels good because it was the first season.”

Weathers imposed his will on the STEELERS, throwing for three touchdowns while also scoring on an interception return. One of Weathers’ most targeted receivers, Marquice Scott-Ford believes he know why his team took home the trophy.

“The key to our game was just to keep passing the ball,” Scott-Ford said. “We knew our men and we were able to get down the field.”

The RAVENS jumped out to a, 30-13, when STEELERS’ sparkplug Jon Eiler made a bold prediction.

“We’re going to intercept a pass and make some touchdowns,” the eight-year-old said.

Right after Eiler’s words, Khalil Schaffer intercepted a pass from Weathers, which led to a STEELERS touchdown to pull the team within 10 points. Then, after a RAVENS turnover on downs, Daeshon Butler took a handoff from his own goal line for the score, to pull the STEELERS within three.

However, that would be as close as the team could get, as the RAVENS were able to put the finishing touches on a season that saw them earn the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, and take home the coveted prize.
