After much thought and consideration with the growing concerns of the safety of traditional football, the Pittsburgh Flag Football League (PFFL) is proud to announce the first and only official NFL Youth Flag Football program in the city of Pittsburgh. Registration for children ages 7-11 is now open until Monday May 16th, 2011 for the upcoming summer season. Games will be played Friday nights at George Cupples Stadium, beginning Friday, June 3.

With the increasing growth in concussions due to early exposure to contact sports, the PFFL is offering a safe, fun and healthy alternative for boys and girls of Pittsburgh and its surrounding communities to still take part in the excitement of competitive athletics without all of the risks. Flag football has been considered by many to be one of the fastest growing recreational sports in the U.S., and through the strategic initiatives of NFL Play 60, NFL Youth Flag Football will serve as a catalyst in the fight against childhood obesity.

In addition to the excitement of each NFL Youth Flag Football team representing a current NFL team, every child will receive a customized player page at www.pghflagfootball.com/youth , an official NFL jersey to keep and the opportunity to compete in a safe and fun environment.

The PFFL, which has been in existence for two years, is making its inaugural endeavor to bring NFL Youth Flag Football to Pittsburgh. Registration for the summer season can be executed online at www.pghflagfootball.com/youth.
