It’s April, and spring is upon us. The temperature is rising, and everything is abloom. Kids of all ages are grabbing their baseball gloves, their bats and heading to the ball field, but there’s just one problem.

It’s raining.

After a winter full of basketball and hockey, kids are ready for a change, but Mother Nature has other plans. So what are kids to do?

The answer: football.

Unlike the baseball diamond, the gridiron is virtually weather proof. A dreary day ruins baseball, but on the football field, it just makes things more interesting.

But America’s national pastime is baseball, how can you replace that with football? Please, the NFL is consistently ranked as the No. 1 most popular sports league in America. So why wouldn’t kids want to be apart of NFL Youth?

Kids can feel the thrill of throwing a crisp spiral, nailing a receiver right between the numbers. They can run like Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith (maybe LaDanian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson for this generation) and burst, cut and outrun defenders for a touchdown leaving jock straps lining the field.

There’s no better feeling than streaking down the sideline with only a step on the defender and catching a game-winning touchdown.

Maybe hitting a home run could come close, but that’s hard as a kid (I’ve tried. Heck, it’s hard as an adult.) And that’s banking on there being no rain.

But a game-winning touchdown pass? That’s an unmatchable feeling in any weather.
