Is REIGN #1 in the league?

Reign quarterback Mike Lucyk makes a lot of things look easy on the field, and this Sunday it was handling pressure.

Lucyk hit 21 of 26 passes for four touchdowns as Reign rolled over Ballz Deep, 27-6.

“Mike finds his check downs,” receiver Jason Cahill said. “If he has pressure, we all know to stop and come back to the ball.”

Despite facing a strong rush from Eric Quinn on every snap, Lucyk remained calm and used short shovel passes and dump-offs effectively.

His favorite target on the day was Jason Hagerty. The duo hooked up eight times for three touchdowns. Cahill caught six passes and one touchdown as Regin dominated the action.

“It means a lot to beat a team like that,” Cahill said. “We’re always trying to score as many points as possible, and it’s tough to put up that many points in not that much time.”

After going down 7-0 on the first drive, Ballz Deep marched down the field but quarterback Steve Chockla’s fourth-down pass was picked by Reign’s D.J. Douglas at the goal-line and returned just short of the first down.

Reign moved down field quickly on four plays as Lucyk and Hagerty connected for the first of their three touchdowns to take a 14-0 halftime lead.

Ballz Deep had a few chances to get back into the game. However, Chockla and receiver Steve Shrum barely missed on a few deep balls, and Ballz Deep couldn’t mount any sustainable offense.

“We’ve been struggling all season, not just anybody but as a whole,” Shrum said. “They’re converting, and we’re missing opportunities.”
