“We kept playing hard and ran our money plays,”

In a thrilling Week 5 matchup, Steve Menowksy led UPDAWG to an impressive 35-28 victory over D-BLOCK. Both teams battled each other all game, but in the end Menowsky outplayed his counterpart Dan Krchmar on D-BLOCK.

Menowsky completed 73% of his passes with four touchdowns. Also the UPDAWG signal-caller contributed a rushing score to complete perhaps the best individual performance of his entire career with the PFFL.

At times I felt as if I was watching a completely different UPDAWG team because Menowsky was more in sync with his receivers than I’ve ever witnessed before. “We kept playing hard and ran our money plays,” he said.

On the other side of the field, Krchmar was solid, throwing for three scores and rushing for another. In addition to his offensive contributions, Krchmar made a spectacular defensive play. Menowsky was scrambling to find an open receiver with Krchmar chasing him down. As the UPDAWG QB released the ball, Krchmar batted it down and then caught it to complete an improbable interception.

In the final moments of regulation, Menowsky made the best decision of the game. With a D-BLOCK defender bearing down on him, Menowsky considered throwing but took the sack instead because he knew he’d get another shot in overtime.

Heading into overtime, the score was tied at 28. On their first possession, Menoswky found Matt Abbot in the end zone to give UPDAWG the edge. On D-BLOCK’s possession, the UPDAWG defense withstood Krchmar’s offensive genius to survive with the W.

UPDAWG finished the regular season with a 6-4 record. They are second in the STEEL NORTH division behind the HORSEMEN going into the postseason. Menowsky learned a lot about his team after their clutch overtime victory. He said, “We played good this last week and if we stick to our game plan, we’ll play teams tough.”
