First place is on the line Sunday morning at 11:30 on Field 2 at George Cupples Stadium when VOODOO takes on GOON SQUAD in an Iron Conference, East Division showdown.

And the two teams fighting for control of the division could not be more different. VOODOO relies on the talented arm or quarterback Lance Brunsell, who has completed 2/3rds of his passes (80 of 120) for 17 touchdowns and only one interception. He has also only been sacked two times.

GOON SQUAD, on the other hand, splits the signal-calling duties between Kevin Griffin, who is 33 of 65 with eight touchdowns and no interceptions, and Shawn Johnson, who has completed 37 of 71 passes for 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. Only Griffin has been sacked.

When he is not behind center, Griffin is also one of the team’s leading receivers, having pulled in 14 passes for two touchdowns. The leader, however, is Dennin Chun, who boasts 26 receptions and five touchdowns.

As productive as Chun has been, no one comes close to the touchdown ratio posted by Tevin Davis, who has turned his 16 receptions into eight touchdowns. Isaiah Younger has seven catches, good for three scores; Johnson has five receptions and one touchdown;  Chris LaRoche has scored one time on four receptions; and Tim Robinson has two receptions and one score.

Austin Durham has been Brunsell’s favorite target for VOODOO, having pulled in 26 receptions for three touchdowns. But several others are not far behind as Brunsell has found success in distributing the ball to several receivers.

Shane Singer has 20 receptions for two scores and Dan Barson has turned his 17 catches into five touchdowns. Bill Blair also has 17 receptions, good for two touchdowns, and Dan Manzo has recorded three touchdowns among his 13 receptions. Dan Parke has 12 catches, good for one score.

Griffin lead’s GOON SQUAD’s defensive charge with 16 tackles, and Davis has returned his lone interception for a touchdown. Johnson has recorded three interceptions to go with his seven tackles and Chun has 11 tackles to his credit. LaRoche boasts the team’s lone sack, and has also recorded an interception and five tackles.

Parke spearheads VOODOO’s defensive charge and has recorded three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Barson has been able to get to opposing quarterbacks two times, and has totaled 11 tackles and an interception to boot.

Durham is the team’s leading tackler with 14, and has one interception, as well. Singer has recorded four tackles and an interception and Manzo has eight tackles.

Whatever the results, this game is sure to filled with plenty of fireworks and sets up to be one of those games where the last team with the ball will probably have a chance to win.
