In a Clash of Veterans, STEELTOWN Comes Out on Top

“It absolutely makes us better. We play better competition and we become a better team,”

A common argument made by PFFL fans over the past several seasons was that the league was top-heavy. But if STEELTOWN’s, 26-20, win over the PRO BOWLERS Sunday isn’t an indication of competitive balance, I don’t know what is.

STEELTOWN star quarterback and reigning PFFL Offensive Player of the Year Chris Sullivan agrees.

“The league is represented well,” Sullivan said. “It’s still a bit top-heavy, but some of these other teams are getting ready to take the next step.”

But Sullivan and his team wouldn’t have it any other way.

“It absolutely makes us better. We play better competition and we become a better team,” he said. “Teams are getting better.”

The talented STEELTOWN squad was able to take advantage of early mistakes by the veteran PRO BOWLERS, which led to an early, 12-0, lead. But PRO BOWLERS quarterback Mike Kregiel was able to find Ryan Cunningham for the touchdown right before the half, cutting the deficit to, 12-7.

STEELTOWN was able to strike first after the break, when Sullivan found Conrad for the second time to extend the lead back to 12. But the PRO BOWLERS would fight back valiantly, matching STEELTOWN score for score in the second half.

After a shaky possession from STEELTOWN with less than a minute left in the game and the PRO BOWLERS trailing by six, Kregiel would have one final chance to lift his team over the unbeaten STEELTOWN.

But Kregiel’s pass in the endzone would be tipped, and STEELTOWN would remain without a loss.

Still, with STEELTOWN being challenged more times this season than usual, major changes could be on the horizon for the PFFL.
