Scalise admitted to me earlier that he injured his ankle while working as a gym teacher.

Joe Scalise is one of the most gifted athletes in the PFFL. Water cooler conversations around the league indicate that he is in the IRONMAN OF THE YEAR conversation for his efforts on offense and defense. WOLFPACK relies on Scalise to make several plays to win games. Unfortunately for the WOLVES, Scalise wasn’t himself as they loss 27-12 to D-BLOCK.

Scalise admitted to me earlier that he injured his ankle while working as a gym teacher. As a result, the dynamic QB was unable to roll out and throw on the run because he couldn’t plant and change direction the way he normally does.

D-BLOCK showed Scalise and his teammates no mercy. In fact, Quarterback Dan Krechmar led his team to a 21-0 lead by halftime. Krechmar threw two touchdowns in the first half. Also, the D-BLOCK signal-caller intercepted Scalise to give the winning team another possession. Tim Stash also threw a touchdown in the game.

Meanwhile, WOLFPACK struggled on offense largely due to Scalise’s uncharacteristically poor play. Scalise only completed one pass and threw an interception. Eventually Scalise relinquished his quarterback duties to his brother Phil. Phil played better but everything good proved to be too little too late for D-BLOCK.

According to Krechmar, the reason why D-BLOCK is playing well is the improvement of team chemistry. As a result of having all of their guys on the field, D-BLOCK is starting to compile more wins.

Krechmar believes that the lessons D-BLOCK took away from its victory over WOLFPACK were that “we stayed calm, tried new plays, and got our defense situated.”

If Joe Scalise’s ankle doesn’t improve soon, many will ask “Can the WOLFPACK be competitive in the playoffs with the average Joe?”
