It doesn’t get much better than this. If you're a fan of flag football or, even if you’re not, if you enjoy seeing the ultimate in good sportsmanship and spirited competition, you will want to mark your calendars for this Sunday afternoon, October 8, 2017 at George Cupples Stadium.

That is when two of the top teams in the Pittsburgh Flag Football League will go head to head in a showdown that is bound to produce fireworks on both sides of the ball. PRIMETIME, which leads the Steel Conference, East Division, with a record of 4-0, will take on BILLY GOATS, which currently stands atop the Iron Conference, West Division at 6-0.

PRIMETIME, which already has more than four league championships to its credit, is clearly the team to beat in this battle of the unbeatens as it features three of the league’s top performers in Kenny Ashmore, Jason Scott and Kory Vorum. Scott has completed 61 of 73 passes for an 83.6 completion rate. He has accounted for 16 touchdowns, tied for 6th best in the league, and has thrown only one interception while being sacked just twice.

Ashmore is Scott’s favorite target, having hauled in 29 receptions, which is fifth best in the league, and scored a league-leading 10 touchdowns. Mike Kelley is PRIME’s second leading receiver with 18 catches and five touchdowns. Vorum has proven to be nearly unstoppable on the defensive side of the ball, having recorded 11 sacks through the first four games. Kelley is tied for second in the league with five interceptions.

BILLY GOATZ, which has made two unsuccessful visits to the league championship game itself, hopes to counter behind the strong arm of Jordan Fowler, who has completed 69 of his 92 passes for a 75% completion rate. Fowler has also thrown for 16 touchdowns with three interceptions, and has been sacked only three times.

Fowler is the leading rusher for either team, having found the end zone on two occasions. According to PFFL rules, a quarterback can run once a defender crosses the line of scrimmage. And Fowler is a threat to do just that. Dave Bassi is the leading receiver for BILLY GOATZ with 18 receptions, good for one score. Rick Douglas has only 11 receptions through the first four games, but five of those catches have gone for touchdowns.

Tom Sherred is the defensive backbone of the BILLY GOATZ. Sherred has recorded 18 tackles, good for a share of fourth place in the league.

Whatever the outcome of Sunday’s game, there is a good chance that these teams might meet again when the Pittsburgh Flag Football League championship game concludes the season on Sunday, October 29.
