“We just put the team together last week,” Kelly said. “STEELTOWN’s been playing together for a long time.”

Usually a little foreplay is just what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately STEELTOWN didn’t mess around with 4PLAY as they schooled the PFFL newbies by a final score of 21-12.

In the first half STEELTOWN Quarterback Chris Sullivan found receivers David Doyle and Michael Miller for two separate scores. 4PLAY QB Mike Kelly connected with teammate Josh Hemminger for the team’s only touchdown in the first half.

4PLAY opened up the second half with a drive that stalled deep in STEELTOWN territory. As soon as STEELTOWN took over on downs they began cruising to the end zone hoping to add to their 14-7 lead when 4PLAY Defensive Back Dom Hoffman picked off an errant Sullivan pass.

Following the turnover, Kelly orchestrated 4PLAY’s final scoring drive that featured a deep completion to Hemminger. Two plays later Kelly hooked up with Ryan Hauser to cut the deficit to two points, 14-12.

That touchdown would be the last that STEELTOWN would allow as Sullivan found Chris Conrad for a touchdown in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. After STEELTOWN converted their extra point, the game became a two possession advantage for the boys in black.

According to Kelly, there were a lot of missed opportunities for 4PLAY. The quarterback also pointed out that his team’s inexperience against the veterans on STEELTOWN was a mismatch.

“We just put the team together last week,” Kelly said. “STEELTOWN’s been playing together for a long time.”

He also added that “the experience of playing together will help us compete on a higher level.”
