They added a one-point conversion to take a 13-0 lead, putting the TITANS in a hole.

Entering the week, the RAVENS were the longshot to win the 13-to-15 year-old championship, but thanks to quarterback “Munch” Schaeffer, the team came back from a slow start in the opening round to take home the title Sunday afternoon at Cupples Field.

“Other than [throwing across my body], I think that I made my coach proud at quarterback,” Schaeffer said. “[I] threw some good passes and some good touchdowns.”

The RAVENS faced off against the top-seeded BROWNS in the first round and were down early after multiple turnovers. But in the second half, the group stepped up defensively and forced the BROWNS into several mistakes, escaping with a close, hard-fought win.

On the other side of the bracket, the TITANS took care of business against the EAGLES, setting the stage for the title matchup.

While the game appeared it would be tight — the RAVENS beat the TITANS 26-19 on June 25 — it was the by far the most lopsided of the championship games, with the RAVENS cruising to a 33-0 win.

The TITANS got the ball to begin the game and were quickly stopped by the RAVENS defense, throwing two incompletions before being stopped short on third down. They made a stand themselves on the ensuing possession though, stopping the RAVENS just short of the goal line to get the ball back.

After two more unsuccessful plays, the TITANS were pinned deep in their own end facing a third and long. They opted to air it out, throwing deep down the middle of the field when a RAVENS defender ran in front of the receiver and appeared to have a beat on the ball. But he was only able to get his fingertips on it, deflecting the pass right to the intended receiver.

It looked like the TITANS might’ve had the first down, but the officials marked him short, giving the ball to the RAVENS. This possession, they wasted no time, scoring on a pass by Schaeffer to take a 6-0 lead heading into the break.

Coming out of halftime, the RAVENS had the ball and quickly added to their lead with a long touchdown run by Schaeffer. They added a one-point conversion to take a 13-0 lead, putting the TITANS in a hole.

The team chose to throw deep again on the ensuing drive, looking for a quick strike to fuel a comeback. This time, the pass was intercepted and returned all the way by Ben Haselrig, giving the RAVENS a commanding 19-0 lead.

From there, it only got worse for the TITANS as Schaeffer scored twice more before the game was stopped at 33-0 due to the mercy rule.

It was a disappointing performance for the TITANS, and ending the year on this note will surely sting. But while the PFFL summer season is over, many of these players will stick around to take part in the Steel City Classic Tournament on Sunday, Aug. 13. The league won’t have an official team in the event, but the players still look forward to representing the PFFL on a bigger stage.
