Marcus Williams, the coach of the 5-to-6 year-old LIONS, hasn’t been involved in the PFFL for long, but the league has already made an impact on both he and his family.

This winter, Williams was looking for a youth sports league for his son — also named Marcus — to play in. One day, while scrolling through Facebook, he came across the PFFL and became interested due to its NFL sponsorship.

He, his son, and a few other relatives joined the league in time for this year’s spring season, with him deciding to coach his son’s team.

“I love [coaching my son],” Williams said. “He likes when I coach him because I’m there all the time and he enjoys being there and being on the field with me. So, it makes him a little bit more loose … and I felt it would be it a little bit easier for him to loosen up if I would be there.”

Now, according to Williams, his son is excited to play each and every Sunday afternoon. The coach has been involved youth football for years, and this upcoming season will be his 12th at Natrona Heights. He stated that while having fun is important at a young age, learning the game and its values is crucial as well.

“We have fun, laugh, joke, but in the same sense, you’re there to learn the game of football and it will help you go on into tackle football if you choose to,” Williams said. “[It could] even help you out in your other activities with hand-eye coordination, grabbing flags, catching a football and being a part of a team.”

Currently, the LIONS are 0-1-1 coming off a tie against the division-leading COWBOYS. Williams and his kids will look to get their first win of the season Sunday as they take on the CHIEFS at 2:30.
