Late in the afternoon on the opening day of the PFFL summer season, the DOLPHINS and STEELERS took to the field as the rain began to fall at Cupples Field. Both offenses experienced their share of struggles, but the DOLPHINS were able to score three times, coming out on top, 18-14.

The STEELERS had the ball to begin the game but couldn‘t pick up the first down, turning it over to the DOLPHINS. They got it right back though, as a pass into the right flat was intercepted and returned all the way for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was successful, and the STEELERS took an early 8-0 lead.

The teams traded long, but scoreless drives to close the half, and at the break the STEELERS maintained their one-possession lead. Early in the second half, the DOLPHINS cut the deficit to two with a quick screen pass, but the STEELERS responded, pushing their lead back to eight on a long touchdown run.

At the midway point of the half, the DOLPHINS got the ball back down 14-6. They marched down the field, scoring a quick touchdown to put the pressure back on the STEELERS. The STEELERS couldn’t respond, and a turnover on downs gave the DOLPHINS an opportunity to steal the win.

They did just that, scoring on another long touchdown run to go up 18-14 with only a few minutes left. The STEELERS couldn’t retake the lead on their next possession, as the DOLPHINS defense stood tall and clinched the opening-week win.

Next Sunday, the DOLPHINS will try to build on their momentum against the 1-0 49ERS while the STEELERS will look to rebound against the 0-1 JAGUARS.
