It was a big start to the season for the 49ERS, but it will be a tough task to continue their streak next week as they take on the 1-0 DOLPHINS.

The inaugural PFFL summer season kicked off Sunday, and the 10-to-12 year-old age division provided a lot of excitement with four highly competitive games. The 49ERS and JAGUARS matchup was one of the more defensive contests, with the 49ERS coming out on top, 13-6.

It didn’t initially look like the game would be low-scoring though, as the 49ERS drove the length of the field on their opening possession, scoring on a long touchdown pass. The conversion was unsuccessful, but the 49ers had taken an early 6-0 lead.

The JAGUARS began to come back on their ensuing possession but failed to pick up a short third down when Hannah Gresock rushed in for a big sack. From that point on, both defenses stepped up and shut down the offenses for the remainder of the half. The JAGUARS collected two interceptions deep in 49ERS territory, but couldn’t convert either as the 49ERS defense held firm.

At the break, the JAGUARS trailed by six but were set to receive the ball to begin the second half. The defensive theme continued though, and the second 20 minutes started with four scoreless possessions.

Late in the half, the JAGUARS broke through on a long touchdown run down the right sideline. The one-point conversion was successful, and the JAGUARS took a 7-6 lead with a few minutes remaining.

The 49ERS got the ball back with a chance to retake the lead, and they took advantage on the first play of the drive. The team threw a short pass into the right flat, and it was pulled down between several defenders before the receiver took off down the sideline to deliver the 49ERS a 13-6 win.

It was a big start to the season for the 49ERS, but it will be a tough task to continue their streak next week as they take on the 1-0 DOLPHINS. On the other hand, the JAGUARS will play the STEELERS, who lost to the DOLPHINS to begin their season.
