“We went into our zone coverage,” Lobaugh explained. “Our rusher forced the throw and the defense was in the right spot at the right time.”

There’s a common saying in football that states “Defense wins championships.” While the implications for the matchup between YOUNGSTOWN and the STALLIONS weren’t on the championship level, both teams turned their game into a defensive struggle. When the smoked cleared YOUNGSTOWN survived the contest 6-0.

Matt Lobaugh of YOUNGSTOWN scored the game’s only touchdown on an interception thrown by STALLIONS’ Quarterback Jason Orsini. After picking off Orsini, Lobaugh dashed to the end zone.

“We went into our zone coverage,” Lobaugh explained. “Our rusher forced the throw and the defense was in the right spot at the right time.”

Tournament Highlights

Lobaugh really bailed his team out in the Dust off the Rust Tournament. Until he made the play of the game his brother and teammate Rick Lobaugh struggled at quarterback for YOUNGSTOWN. Rick was intercepted once and sacked twice by the STALLIONS’ defense. In addition, he only completed 38 percent of his passes.

As far as his brother’s poor performance at quarterback, Matt responded by saying YOUNGSTOWN needs to “get the quarterback in rhythm on some short routes and that’ll open up the offense.”

Although they played poorly on offense, YOUNGSTOWN maintained healthy optimism about their victory. “We play well as a team and I think the further we go in the tournament the more we’ll start to gel” Matt said.

YOUNGSTOWN might’ve gotten the best of the STALLIONS but they’ll need to put up more points if they hope defeat the talented teams left in the tournament.
