While TEAM X entered the Dust Off the Rust tournament with high hopes, the DOGS showed the rookies no mercy. The BULLDOGS looked sharp as they easily defeated X 22-6.

One of the PFFL’s most prolific quarterback-receiver tandems powered the BULLDOGS’ offensive machine again. Veteran signal-caller Eugene Smith hooked up with Zack Gorny for two touchdowns. Smith also threw to LC Trent for another score.

In addition to their offensive success, the BULLDOGS defense stepped up big time against the X-MEN. Unsung defensive hero D. Scott registered two sacks, including one that resulted in a safety for the BULLDOGS. While Scott was impressive as a rusher, BULLDOGS’ defensive back Rue Hutchinson caught two interceptions against two different X quarterbacks. Trent also contributed a sack.

“We tried to force the ball deep early,” X-MEN captain Camden Gentry explained. “We need to slow down and control the clock with shorter passes.”

There weren’t many highlights for the rookies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. However, Jared Snowberger gave his teammates a glimmer of hope with his interception of Smith. The X-MEN scored on their ensuing possession after Snowberger hit Gentry for the team’s only touchdown.

Gentry expressed optimism regarding their lone scoring play. “It gives us an idea of what kinds of plays can be successful in this league,” he said.

Despite losing their first contest to a veteran team, TEAM X expressed high regard for the PFFL. “It’s a lot more organized,” Gentry said. “It’s run a lot more professionally.”
