Heading into the last few weeks of the PFFL regular season, the teams are starting to realize where they stack up against the others. Some have found their way towards the top while those at the bottom are hoping to climb back with a strong end to the spring.

Here’s a rundown of how each team has played thus far with a corresponding letter grade.

Steel North Division

WRENIS PINKLES (5-2)

Led by receiver Zach Follador, the WRENIS PINKLES have made their way to the top of the Steel North. The group has been solid so far, going 4-0 against division opponents, but the success hasn’t carried over against stiffer competition.

B+

BLACK KNIGHTS (5-3)

The BLACK KNIGHTS got off to a great start, winning their first three contests. But the season has gone downhill quickly, as the squad has dropped three of the past five. Outside of a 37-12 blowout at the hands of the WRECKING CREW, the losses have been close, coming by a combined nine points.

B

PATRIOTS (4-4)

It’s been a up-and-down season for the PATRIOTS, who have been involved in a number of close games, with all but two being decided by less than eight points. One of the bright spots on the team has been Jeff Holmes, who has hauled in 41 throws, nine of which were touchdowns.

C

BALD EAGLES (2-4)

Offense has been lacking for the BALD EAGLES all year long, as the team has yet to score 20 points in a game. They’ve been shutout twice, and quarterback Ryan Bailey shoulders most of the blame, as his 39.4 percent completion rate is one of the worst in the league among starting quarterbacks.

D

NORTHSIDE INFANTRY (1-5)

The defense has been fairly effective for NORTHSIDE INFANTRY so far, but the offense has been horrendous outside of the team’s lone victory over the ESKIMO BROTHERS. They tend to hang around with tougher teams, but the defense hasn’t been stiff enough to pull out wins.

D+

ESKIMO BROTHERS (1-5)

The ESKIMO BROTHERS have been getting better lately, but their awful start seemingly ended the season before it began. In the group’s first four games, they lost by a combined 129 points. Their schedule gets easier from this point, but it’s hard to imagine the squad can turn the season around.

D-

Iron North Division

DISORDERLIES (6-1)

The DISORDERLIES have been the best team in Division 2, and it’s not even close. The team stormed out to a 6-0 start, collecting impressive wins over the HONEY BADGERS and the Steel North-leading WRENIS PINKLES. The lone loss came at the hands of PRIMETIME — one of the best teams in Division 1 — just last week.

A+

HONEY BADGERS (4-4)

If any team is trending down heading into the closing weeks of the year, it’s the HONEY BADGERS. After winning their first three games, the team has fallen, losing four of their last five. The losses include a 28-7 defeat to the ESKIMO BROTHERS and a 13-0 shutout against the BLACK KNIGHTS.

C

MUD DOGS (4-5)

The MUD DOGS have been very inconsistent all year and their record reflects it. Quarterbacks Casey Haughey and Bryan Thomas have been mediocre this spring, combining to throw 10 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

C

HURRICANES (3-4)

The HURRICANES have done a good job taking care of business against lesser teams, collecting each of their wins against sub-.500 teams. They haven’t been pull out wins against tougher competition though, coming up just short in three of their four defeats.

C

BROAD STREET BREWERS (1-4)

Quarterback Gerald Okeefe has been the main culprit for the BROAD STREET BREWERS in the first half of the season, completing only 51.3 percent of his throws. The team has only scored seven touchdowns so far, and that will need to improve if they hope to make a run.

D+

Steel Central Division

PRIMETIME (6-1)

PRIMETIME has dominated Division 1 for most of the year, with only one of their six wins coming by less than one possession. Quarterback Jason Scott has been the team’s catalyst, throwing for 25 touchdowns to only two interceptions. Their undefeated season came to an end last week though in an 18-14 loss to PUCK U.

A+

DEL FUEGOS (5-2)

DEL FUEGOS has picked up momentum heading into the last few games of the year, as they handed PUCK U their second loss of the season last Sunday. Receivers Scott Kaercher and Dave Sexhour have been electric all season, combining to catch 54 passes, 18 of which were touchdowns.

A-

MMG (4-2)

After looking like one of the top teams in March, MMG fell short once the competition heated up. Their two losses have come against PRIMETIME and PUCK U — the two division leaders. The schedule gets easier to close the year, so look for quarterback Tony Battaglini and MMG to make a run.

A-

WRECKING CREW (3-3)

It’s been a season of streaks for WRECKING CREW, who started the year by winning three straight before falling back to .500. The team’s offense carries most of the blame, as they’ve been shut down as of late. In their wins, they averaged just over 30 points, but opponents have held them to less than 15 in each of their losses.

C

MEAN MACHINE (2-5)

MEAN MACHINE’s offense has been a mess all year long, averaging only 8.14 points per game. They’ve completed just 53.4 percent of their passes and have thrown more interceptions than touchdowns. The defense ranks in the middle of the league, but it hasn’t been good enough to offset the offense.

C-

SMOKE (2-6)

The record isn’t reflective of how the group has performed so far, as SMOKE has come out on the wrong side of a couple close contests. Their offense and ranks fourth in Division 1 in points scored, but the quarterback play has been spotty, as only 67 percent of passes have been caught.

C-

Iron Central Division

PUCK U (8-2)

The only team finished with the regular season, PUCK U has set themselves up well for the playoffs. Quarterback Adam Zyski and receiver Josh Linton have led the charge, connecting for 10 touchdowns. If the duo’s impressive play continues, the team has a good chance to make a run for the championship.

A

VAPOR (4-1)

VAPOR has been one of the more consistent teams in the league, allowing less than 20 points in every game so far. The one loss came at the hands of MMG on Mar. 26, but the team immediately bounced back by knocking off PUCK U, 14-6. Quarterback Cornell Mack has been the star of the team, amassing an 18-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

A

VOODOO (2-5)

With both wins coming over last-place GHOST NATION, VOODOO has been relatively lackluster this year. They’ve been competitive with some of the top teams, losing close decisions to PUCK U and MMG. There’s some time to turn the season around, but the team needs to figure out a way to pull out wins.

C-

GHOST NATION (1-7)

After some close losses to start the year, GHOST NATION has failed to gain any momentum and has lost each of their past five games. The group averages only 9 points per game while giving up 22.5. The road ahead isn’t any easier, as the final two teams on their schedule have a combined 8-3 record.
