Smith Leads Struggling Bald Eagles

The BALD EAGLES have gotten off to a sloppy start this spring and currently sport a 2-4 record, but one of their bright spots has been defensive back TA Smith.

Smith has led the unit this season with three interceptions, all of which came in the squad’s win over the MUD DOGS on March 26. He also ranks second on the team in tackles with eight.

In addition, he’s a threat on offense, as he has caught six passes including two touchdowns this spring.

Quarterback Ryan Bailey hasn’t come through for the team this year, having completed only 39.4 percent of his throws. His completion percentage ranks last in the league among quarterbacks who have thrown more than 30 passes.

The receiving corps — led by Isahiah Geeter and Michaeil Clemm — has helped to make up for the poor play, but they haven’t been good enough to pull out wins.

Offensively, the team is more balanced than most, accumulating 13 rushing attempts through six games. If the running game picks up, look for this team to win a few down the stretch, as two of their final four contests are against 1-5 opponents.

For now though, Smith has been one of the only positives this team has, and a playoff run won’t be possible if his strong play doesn’t continue.

Though ultimately, someone else is going to have to step up outside of Smith and the two receivers. There’s still time left, and the last few weeks of the season should be interesting to watch.
