To him, winning is important, but not as much as the way he treats his team.

Judging by the TITANS game against the CARDINALS on Sunday afternoon at Cupples Field, the 10- to 12-year-old age group is where winning starts to become more important.

Throughout the contest, both coaches were very hard on the official, arguing with calls and interpretations of the rules. TITANS head coach Joe Martin argued specifically about what he thought were missed impeding calls. The referee — ignoring the complaints — was able to keep the game under control.

The TITANS got off to a strong start, getting on the board first with a touchdown pass from quarterback Bryce Heller.

Heller had great composure in the backfield all game long and was one of the team’s most exciting players. He showcased his strong arm on several plays, and his ability to throw downfield makes him a big threat.

But the early 6-0 lead would be the only one for the TITANS, who allowed the CARDINALS to tie the game on the last play of the half. The second half was even worse, as Heller couldn’t get anything going on offense and the defense struggled to slow down the CARDINALS.

The TITANS gave up two scores in the second half, and the CARDINALS walked away with an 18-6 win. This game was just the latest in a series of losses for the TITANS, who are now tied for last in the age division with an 0-3 record.

Despite the loss, Martin consoled the group afterwards, telling them to keep pushing and that wins will come soon. The speech was in stark contrast to his in-game personality, but throughout it all, his conduct towards his players was top-class. To him, winning is important, but not as much as the way he treats his team.
