Regal Jones and JeSean Wright split quarterback duties for the TEXANS, and their combined skill set has led the team to a perfect 3-0 start.

When watching the TEXANS practice ahead their afternoon game, it is immediately clear they are different from other teams.

While most youth squads go right into practicing plays, coach Kevin Lindner has a different philosophy, having the players stretch and do drills to get warmed up. Once they get to running plays, another unique feature of the team comes to light in the form of two young players.

Regal Jones and JeSean Wright split quarterback duties for the TEXANS, and their combined skill set has led the team to a perfect 3-0 start.

“[It’s] real fun [being the quarterback],” Jones said. “Plus, behind the scenes, I get to play around with them and we get to tell jokes and stuff.”

While the two quarterbacks are both capable players, each of them specializes in different aspects of the game. Jones is a quarterback who excels at avoiding the rush and throwing under pressure. Wright likes the game to be more controlled and has great down-field accuracy.

“Regal is a good skilled quarterback,” Wright said. “I think that both of us switching out is good… We both get some playing time, so it’s even.”

In this past weekend’s game against the 2-0 BRONCOS, the team got off to a poor start. Jones made a rare mistake, throwing an interception early in the first half. At halftime, the TEXANS were down 12-0, but Lindner reassured them the result was still very much in doubt.

Wright took over at quarterback in the second half and ran the offense on most of its plays. The unit’s first two possessions of the half ended in touchdowns, as Wright led the team all the way down the field. After a successful conversion attempt on the second score, the TEXANS had grabbed a 13-12 lead.

With time winding down, they scored again, as John Mooney run in for a touchdown to finish off the comeback. Wright said the group’s ability to come back from early deficits is one of his favorite parts of playing on the TEXANS.

“We’re a good skilled team, and we know what to do when we’re down, so that’s why I like my team,” Wright said.

Lindner’s system may not be conventional, but the results are hard to argue with, and come May the TEXANS should be in great position in the PFFL playoffs.
