After starting the season with back-to-back ties, the BUCCANEERS picked up their first win of the season on Sunday, crushing the BEARS by a score of 18-0.

The BUCCANEERS (1-2-0) were led by Gabriel Marino, who ran for two long touchdowns in the first half. The star attributed his success to the passion he has for the game.

“I have this feeling inside of me and it just makes me all excited,” Marino said. “Then, I’m just able to run the ball.”

His first score came on the opening play of the game, when he got the ball on an end around and sprinted all the way down the right sideline. Coach Lamar Russ drew up a creative play, as everyone but Marino stood still, confusing the defense.

The BEARS (1-2) couldn’t respond on their next possession, as the BUCCANEERS’ Rayven Russ created pressure in the backfield. Marino took off for his second touchdown on the team’s next possession, giving the BUCCANEERS a 12-0 lead at the half.

Despite Marino’s big offensive output, he said after the game he prefers to play defense instead.

“The favorite part [of playing on the BUCCANEERS] is defense and us getting a lot of plays…” Marino said.

At the start of the second half, neither team could get much going on offense. Rayven continued to create havoc for the BUCCANEERS, while Legend Watkins did the same for the BEARS.

The BUCCANEERS eventually found their way into the endzone with only a few minutes remaining, extending their lead to 18. The team was able to put the game away, shutting out a BEARS offense that had been averaging 14 points per game coming into the contest.

After the off week, the BUCCANEERS return to take on the undefeated SAINTS while the BEARS will play the CHARGERS. Both contests kick off at 1:45 p.m.
