This Sunday, April 2 the PANTHERS and RAVENS will meet up to battle for the best record in the Teen Division. In addition to the STEELERS the PANTHERS and RAVENS both won their season openers last Sunday.

The PANTHERS, led by South Hills Middle School Coach Will James, put forth an offensive onslaught against the VIKINGS that resulted in a 36-12 victory. Although this is Coach Will’s first season coaching in the PFFL, he is no stranger to the game of flag football. During the inaugural season of the PFFL’s Interscholastic League, Coach Will coached the HUSKIES to a 10-1 regular season record. Moreover, the HUSKIES defeated the Pittsburgh Classical Academy Knights in the Interscholastic Championship 44-25.

While top-notch coaching played a significant role in the PANTHERS’ first win of the season, the roster that Coach Will has at his disposal deserves just as much credit for the team’s success. Anchored by Youth League veterans Patrick Panichella and Braxton Allen, the PANTHERS have a roster that is capable of going undefeated this season.

On the other side of the field the RAVENS are coming off of a thrilling double overtime 31-25 win against the BENGALS. In addition to winning their season opener, the RAVENS should be feeling optimistic about their playoff chances because the BENGALS are being coached by the all-time winningest coach in Youth League history Dennis “Shor D” Wolford.

RAVENS’ Coach Jason Moore drew up several plays in crunch time that put his team in position to score points. The touchdown throw from Benjamin Wilk to Malik Marmon to put the BIRDS up 25-19 in the first overtime was flawlessly executed.

When the RAVENS and PANTHERS play each other this Sunday, fans should pay special attention because this game could be a preview of the championship game this postseason.

Despite the PANTHERS’ dominating win I think that the RAVENS’ have an advantage over them because they just survived a double OT game against a BENGALS team that might not lose another game this season.
