Every week, a few players are leaned on more heavily than others. This time, it’s Tony Battaglini, Chase Caldwell and Alex Lohman.

Many of the PFFL’s best athletes will take to the field in week four, looking to help their team gain some ground in the standings. Every week, a few players are leaned on more heavily than others. This time, it’s Tony Battaglini, Chase Caldwell and Alex Lohman.

Each member of this trio has been hugely important for their respective teams in the early stages of the Spring. They’ve all found themselves near the top of the statistical rankings and will need to keep up their outstanding play if they hope to pull out a win on Sunday.

Tony Battaglini

Battaglini, MMG’s quarterback, has led his team to an impressive start. They currently sit atop the Steel Central division with a perfect record of 4-0 and average 26.75 points a game.

The star thrower ranks fourth in the league — among those who have thrown more than one pass — with an 80 percent completion percentage. He’s also near the top in touchdowns, checking in at third with 13 in the team’s first four games.

Chase Caldwell

Defensively, Caldwell has been the most visible presence for the SMOKE. He’s picked off opposing quarterbacks three times thus far, averaging one interception a game. Also, he has recorded eight tackles on the year, second most among players who’ve appeared in fewer than four contests.

Caldwell also plays a big part in the team’s offensive gameplan, catching 12 passes — including one for a touchdown — in three games.

Alex Lohman

For the HONEY BADGERS, Lohman has been the center of the offense. He leads all receivers in receptions and touchdowns, and his 24 catches are more than the rest of the unit combined.

He’s no slouch on defense either, recording the team’s only sack of the season last week.

These three athletes have been among the best the PFFL has to offer, and should their impressive play continue, they will all find themselves playing deep into the postseason.
