New Format Shakes Up PFFL

Although some teams might be opposed to the new format for regular season play, I think that the majority of teams will approve the change.

After experimenting with the divisional breakdown of teams during the Frost Bowl tournament earlier this year, the PFFL decided to tinker with the regular season divisions.  For the first time ever the regular season teams have been broken down into two divisions: Division 1 and Division 2.

Loosely based on the competition levels that the NCAA employs for its college athletes, Division 1 features our most competitive teams while Division 2 reflects the teams that primarily are re-building and new to the PFFL.

Now before the DEL FUEGOS become aggravated with me for lumping their team in with the rest of the Division 2 squads, let me acknowledge that the team formerly known as MYSTERY MEN are certainly not anticompetitive. Led by All-Stars Bob Lee and Scott Kaercher, the FUEGOS should run through Division 2 with relative ease.

Unfortunately for the FUEGOS, all of the contenders play in Division 1. While cake walking to a first round bye in the postseason is certainly an accomplishment, the team might find itself ill prepared to take on teams like VAPOR and PRIMETIME in the playoffs.

Although some teams might be opposed to the new format for regular season play, I think that the majority of teams will approve the change. For example, if you are a “D2 Team” then you will enjoy having a puncher’s chance of winning at least one game in the playoffs since you don’t have to play an elite team in the first round. On the flip side if you are a contending team then you will fill increasingly vindicated if you win a championship because the road to the title would be more challenging.

Let’s see if MEAN MACHINE can put a scare into their Division 2 rivals by maintaining their current reign as division leaders.
