After a failed last-ditch effort by BILLY GOATZ, the game ended with a final score of 32-19.

Sunday marked the final day of the fall regular season for the adult league.  Many teams came into Week 6 trying to seal division titles and improve their seeding for playoffs.   Sunday brought a matchup between two teams fighting for first place in their respected divisions.  BILLY GOATZ came into Sunday at 6-2 and in second place in the Steel East behind 6-1 STEELTOWN.  On the other side, HIGH OCTANE entered the day at 4-4, trying to maintain their half-game first place lead over PUCK U in the Iron North.

Much like the whole game, the first half was dominated by the offenses.  HIGH OCTANE started off the game strong.  On first down of their first possession, QB Lance Brunsell threw a bomb to Marrio Poston who beat his cornerback into the endzone for the game’s first touchdown.  However, BILLY GOATZ was quick to answer.  On third down, QB Jordan Fowler went deep to a wide-open Matt Griffith for a touchdown.  The extra point was good to Rick Douglas and BILLY GOATZ took the lead 7-6.

However, HIGH OCTANE got the ball and was ready to strike back.  HIGH OCTANE capped off an eight-play drive with a touchdown pass from Brunsell to Danny Pepper in the corner of the endzone.  Down 13-7, BILLY GOATZ got the ball back and scored a touchdown just like their first one.  Fowler threw another deep bomb, this time to Simon Bekavac, for a touchdown to tie the game.

HIGH OCTANE raced against the clock to add one more score before halftime.  With great time management and several quick completions by Brunsell, HIGH OCTANE did just that – taking the lead going into halftime off of a touchdown from Brunsell to Pepper.

he second half was not as high-scoring as the first, but still had its fair share of highlights.  Despite entering the second half down a touchdown, BILLY GOATZ failed to get anything going on their opening offensive possession.  HIGH OCTANE, on the other hand, were able to keep up their first-half offensive pace.  After working their way up the field, Brunsell found Poston wide-open in the left side of the endzone for a touchdown and a 25-13 lead.

However, BILLY GOATZ were ready to show they weren’t done yet.  Fowler worked his team up the field with several quick completions to Griffith and Bekavac.  In the end, Fowler found Griffith up the middle for a touchdown.  Poston sacked Fowler on the 2-pt conversion attempt and BILLY GOATZ remained down 25-19.
HIGH OCTANE kept the momentum going on offense.  Brunsell found Pepper cutting to the endzone for his third touchdown reception of the game to seal the win for HIGH OCTANE.  After a failed last-ditch effort by BILLY GOATZ, the game ended with a final score of 32-19.

BILLY GOATZ got off to a fast start this season with a 6-0 record, but have lost their last three games.  BILLY GOATZ has been a strong contender every year in playoffs and was the STEEL Conference Champions last spring.  They have an all-star quarterback in Fowler and steady wide receivers but need to definitely regroup and come ready to play lights out next Sunday if they want a shot at the PFFL Championship.

HIGH OCTANE came up with a huge win in this game to snap a three-game losing streak and gain momentum going into playoffs.  Their offense looked strong today led by a veteran quarterback in Brunsell, who finished the game with five touchdown passes.  Both Pepper and Poston played well offensively and Poston finished the game with two defensive sacks.  However, if HIGH OCTANE wants to make a playoff run, they need to work on defensive miscommunications, which hurt them in this game and will hurt them in playoffs if not corrected.
