Well, well, well...what do we have here?

Could it be that two of the top title contenders from the IRON CONFERENCE are gearing up to do battle against each other this Sunday?

Tell me I’m not dreaming!

This Sunday, the PFFL equivalent of a heavyweight fight will be taking place at Cupples Stadium. WRECKING CREW and SUICIDE SQUAD are entering their Week 4 matchup as the division leaders of the IRON EAST and IRON NORTH divisions, respectively. Both teams have lost just one game all season. Ironically, both losses came courtesy of PRIMETIME, who at 6-0 should be favored above every team to win the championship.

Don’t let the name “SUICIDE SQUAD” fool you. Any team that has All-Stars Cornell Mack, Josh Vermilian, and the Williams Brothers (Dane and Elliot) will always be known as VAPOR to me. Over the past few seasons the championship has run through three teams: PRIMETIME, WRECKING CREW, and VAPOR.

All-Star Quarterback Jeff Bollinger has the quickest release in the entire league. He excels at getting ball out of his hands early on first down. By doing so, Bollinger is able to neutralize the opposing team’s pass rush. Ultimately, the savvy veteran’s goal is to set up a big play to All-Star deep threat Bruce Thornton who can catch the ball at its highest point against any DB.

On the other side of the field, Mack will be looking to use a combination of comeback routes and designed runs to jumpstart the SQUAD’s offense. Vermilian’s route-running will cause fits for DBs like Steve Killius and Chris Cramer because the wideout’s ability to get in and out of his routes with stellar quickness is problematic for man and zone coverage.

Defensively, I think that Elliot, Dane and DJ have the edge over Cramer, Killius, and Thornton. SUICIDE SQUAD’s airtight coverage will definitely force Jeff into throwing a couple of picks.

At the end of the day, I think that SUICIDE SQUAD will win a defensive struggle against the CREW by the score of 14-12.
