WRENIS PINKLES is an athletic team and if they can keep up the competitiveness and consistency, they could be one to watch out for.

Week 3 of the adult league brought a great matchup between WRENIS PINKLES and SMOKE.  Week 3 brought WRENIS PINKLES’ first action of the fall 2016 season and SMOKE came into the day with a 2-1 record.

WRENIS PINKLES got off to a pretty strong start.  On the third play of their first drive, QB Cory Blotzer threw to Zach Follador, who ran his way down the field for a touchdown.

After stops by both defenses, SMOKE finally scored their first touchdown of the game.  QB Fred Warrell connected with Craig Stamm on a deep ball into the endzone.  Ending on a successful extra point, SMOKE took a 7-6 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, WRENIS PINKLES struck first, yet again.  On their second possession, Blotzer went deep to Anthony Venditti for a touchdown.  They took a 14-7 lead after a successful two-point conversion.  However, SMOKE got the ball and answered right back.  On third down, Warrell completed a pass to Stamm, who shook the cornerback to run for a touchdown.

WRENIS PINKLES responded to that with another touchdown of their own – this time on a pass from Blotzer to Michael Galet, who beat his defender up the middle to find the endzone.  Down 20-14, SMOKE worked their way down the field as the clock winded down.  However, Warrell was able to find Michael Moye in the endzone for the game-tying touchdown.  An unsuccessful extra point took the game into overtime at 20-20.

Each team failed to score on their turn with the ball in the first overtime.  It would take double overtime to finish this one out.  On their second chance with the ball, WRENIS PINKLES capitalized with a touchdown from Blotzer to Galet.  The defense held strong and prevented SMOKE from tying the game.  The battle of the offenses was over and WRENIS PINKLES came out on top by a score of 26-20.

Overall, both teams played well in this one.  For WRENIS PINKLES, Blotzer had a solid game at quarterback, throwing for 4 touchdowns.  He has a strong arm but needs to lessen his incompletions.  Anthony Venditti led the team with 7 receptions and Michael Galet had 2 TD receptions and four tackles.  WRENIS PINKLES is an athletic team and if they can keep up the competitiveness and consistency, they could be one to watch out for.

SMOKE played strong in this one but just couldn’t convert in the end.  They have a strong quarterback in Warrell, who threw three TD passes, but he needs to watch some of his risky shuffle passes.  The team was led offensively by Chris Stamm with 8 receptions and two touchdowns.  On the defensive side, Shawn Vaughn finished the game with an interception and a sack.  SMOKE smart route-running on offense works well and they should focus on improving their defensive play.
