Week 2 of the adult league brought a matchup between PFFL veteran VENOM at 2-0 and PFFL newcomer TRIBE at 0-2.

Here’s a quick recap of the game between VENOM and TRIBE.

TRIBE started off with the ball and quickly lost it.  Quarterback, one of many, Jake Dudae threw an interception on first down to VENOM’s TA Smith.  VENOM took advantage of the turnover with a touchdown pass from QB Briant Thompson to Ramon Jordan.

Down 7-0, TRIBE tried to get things going on offense, but the drive ended yet again with another interception by Dudae to TA Smith.  That would not be Dudae’s last throwing error, as he was picked off for the third time by Smith on their next possession.  VENOM took over and Thompson threw a long pass to WR Joe Binder who weaved his way into the endzone for a TD.

TJ Whalen took over at quarterback for TRIBE and was a bit more successful.  He drove his team down the field and ended up finding Dudae for TRIBE’s first TD of the game.  Going into halftime, the score read 14-6 in favor of VENOM.

Despite TRIBE bringing the score close before half, VENOM dominated the second half.  On their first possession, Thompson heaved the ball downfield to Kevin Mahdi for a touchdown.  After stopping TRIBE, Thompson threw another TD pass, this time to Joe Binder.

Down 27-6, TRIBE tried yet another player at QB in Jacob White and he proved to be the most sufficient.  White worked his team up the field and found TJ Whalen wide open in the corner of the endzone for a TD.  However, another VENOM touchdown, this time by Josh Pennybaker, sealed the deal and the game ended by a score of 34-12.

This game displayed some much needed areas of improvement for TRIBE.  It’s one thing to be young and inexperienced, but it’s another thing to be unknowledgeable.  TRIBE got multiple penalties throughout the game and needs to study the playbook.  Also, they need to choose one stable quarterback.  Just because you can throw the ball, doesn’t mean you can be a quarterback.  TRIBE should stick with Jacob White at QB and focus on their defense, specifically on getting a rusher.  However, they do have some potential and should not be underestimated.

VENOM looked impressive on both sides of the ball in this game.  Briant Thompson is a veteran quarterback and a strong leader which shows in his control and consistency.  He has a solid receiving core behind him, spreading the ball around to Jordan, Mahdi, Binder, and Pennybaker.  TA Smith is a standout defensive specialist and finished the game with 3 interceptions.  However, they need to make sure they are communicating on defense more to avoid blown coverages.  If they fix the minor miscommunications and continue their strong offensive play, VENOM is in for a successful season.
