Down 19-6, the PATRIOTS worked their way up the field, but failed to capitalize

GREEN MACHINE and PATRIOTS competed against each other in one of the last games of Week 2.  By the time these two teams hit the field, the rain was coming down hard and it made play extremely difficult.  Here’s a quick recap of the game.

The PATRIOTS were the first to strike after a turnover on downs by GREEN MACHINE.  PATRIOTS QB Michael Carr launched the ball downfield to fill-in Shane Singer for a touchdown.  However, GREEN MACHINE was quick to answer.  GREEN MACHINE QB Adam Barkefelt worked his team down the field and eventually found Christopher Nasri up the middle for a touchdown.

With the game tied at sixes, GREEN MACHINE made a defensive stop to get the ball back in their hands.  On first down, Barkefelt tossed a quick pass to Zach Hall who evaded multiple tackles to take it all the way down the sideline for a touchdown and the lead at half 12-6.

Coming out of halftime, the PATRIOTS looked strong.  They worked their way up the field, only to turn the ball over on downs just shy of the endzone.  GREEN MACHINE took advantage of their failure to score.  On second down, Barkefelt threw a bomb down the field to Adam Ulery on blown coverage for a touchdown.

Down 19-6, the PATRIOTS worked their way up the field, but failed to capitalize just outside the endzone yet again.  However, they were able to score one more time before the game ended on a touchdown pass from Carr to Jeff Holmes.  The game ended in favor of GREEN MACHINE by a score of 19-12.

Holmes and Michael Carr were the only two members of an already thin roster to show up for the game.  The PATRIOTS borrowed VOODOO’s Shane Singer and PUCKU’s Dan Barson to play.  They have a decent QB in Carr, who threw for two touchdowns and an all-star wide receiver in Holmes who finished the game with 6 receptions.  However, two players cannot win a game or compete period.  The PATRIOTS need to work on finishing on offense and filling a team.

On the other hand, GREEN MACHINE had a full team and looked decent in this game on both sides of the ball.  QB Adam Barkefelt completed 13 of his 19 passes and threw three touchdowns to Hall, Ulery, and Nasri.  However, he seems to rely on the shuffle pass at bit too much, which accounts for most of his incompletions.  The defense wasn’t bad either, led by David Duhmain and rusher Barry Noonan.

It seemed like each team had significant trouble with the rain at times both from a quarterback and receiving standpoint.  Despite the rain, both teams fought hard and I’m interested to see what they have in decent weather in the upcoming weeks.
