Overall, VOODOO fought hard with what they had and Porter showed off his strong arm

At the start of this Steel South matchup, things didn’t look good for VOODOO – only three team members showed up for the game.  The PATRIOTS not only had an advantage playing against a 3-man team, but also had a sub to give rests here and there.

With that being said, VOODOO played the best they could with three guys.  The first half was back-and-forth.  Both teams scored on their opening drives, giving VOODOO an early 7-6 lead.  However, each team also threw an interception in the first half, one of which resulted in a TD for the PATRIOTS.  Each team added another touchdown and the PATRIOTS went into halftime with a 22-14 lead.

VOODOO came out of the half strong with a long ball touchdown on first down from QB Nathan Porter to WR Shane Singer.  However, the PATRIOTS answered back with a touchdown of their own.   A costly pick-six widened the lead for the PATRIOTS and they never looked back.  VOODOO was able to score one more touchdown that half, but it wasn’t enough to beat the PATRIOTS.  The high-scoring battle ended with a final score of 44-26.

Overall, VOODOO fought hard with what they had.  Porter showed off his strong arm, completing 7 of his 11 passes and throwing for 4 TD passes.  All four of the deep-bomb TD passes were to Singer, who finished the game with 6 receptions.

The PATRIOTS played well in this game.  QB Michael Carr came ready to play, completing over 90% of his passes, throwing for two TDs, and running for two as well.  Defensively, the standout was Avi Teitelbaum with two pick-sixes.  Although he contributed 3 receptions, Jeff Holmes got beat deep multiple times on defense – something that needs to improve.

The PATRIOTS multiple successful 2-pt conversion also gave them a big edge in this game.  They knew VOODOO wouldn’t be able to stop the easy QB keep without a rusher.  If VOODOO would have had more players, I think they could have won this one.  However, the PATRIOTS played the disadvantage well and earned themselves a much needed victory.
