Sunday’s matchup between the SPARTANS and BIG BLACK VOODOO DADDIES is a classic bout between two rookie teams that are looking to gain a glimmer of confidence at the midway point of the season. So far both teams have struggled predictably in their debuts with the PFFL.

At 1-4 the SPARTANS have compiled a regular season record that is disappointing for a team with as much veteran leadership as they have on their team. Brothers Royce and Lance Woods have played with the league in previous years and at times they have been solid role players for competitive teams. Royce is a competent quarterback as well as a fiery leader under center. Lance on the other hand is the laid-back yin to his older brother’s yang. His skills as a sure-handed possession receiver gives the Royce a solid option inside of the red zone.

On defense Cornerback Jason Hood is a ferocious ballhawk. His four interceptions are a big reason why they have remained competitive throughout three of their five games.

As far as VOODOO is concerned, a 1-6 record is definitely below the first-year expectations of this team. In three of their six losses, VOODOO has been blanked on the scoreboard. In their only win , the squad managed to beat up on another rookie team, GAME CHANGERS, to the tune of a 30-0 win. While Quarterback Jorge Riviera compiled a 85.4 passer rating in that game, his 37.5 completion percentage put a damper on an otherwise solid performance.

The bottom line is that both of these teams are in desperate need of a win. Ultimately I expect the SPARTANS to come out on top in a game that will be a defensive struggle for both teams. I predict that unsung hero Kenny Lewis will make a play to win the game with time expiring.
