STEELTOWN: A Veteran Powerhouse

STEELTOWN did not arrive on the scene until Week 3 but when they did, they came out with a bang.

STEELTOWN went 4-0 in their games, outscoring opponents by a combined score of 97-7.  Although they played three teams with losing records, they still impressively held those teams to shutouts.  When it came to playing MMG, one of the league’s elite, they came out on top again in a close one 15-7.

Jeremy Greenawalt, veteran all-star WR and CB for STEELTOWN, was happy with their play on Sunday.

“We haven’t played together since nationals in January, so I was really impressed.  We were definitely clicking on all cylinders.”

The current STEELTOWN was formed 3 seasons ago as a merger between the pre-existing STEELTOWN and the former PFFL team BALLS DEEP.  The teams were friendly and familiar with each other and when they each began to lose members, they decided to join forces.

League members have always joked about STEELTOWN being the band of old guys.  Yes, they are slightly older – most of the members in their late 30’s and 40’s.  However, I would not underestimate the skills these guys have.  They bring experience to the table that a lot of the younger, disorganized teams lack.

Another strength of STEELTOWN is their depth.  They don’t rely on one star to do it all; Sullivan spreads the ball around on offense and they all contribute some tackles on defense.

With this being said, Greenawalt did note some key leaders on the team.

“Chris Sullivan.  He’s the QB, play-caller, the field-general.  On defense, our rusher Eric Quinn.  He makes it easier for the cornerbacks.  He’s what makes it go on defense.”

Greenawalt and his teammates have high expectations for this season – they want a PFFL championship and want one before some of their members can’t play anymore.  However, they are going have to beat the likes of VAPOR, MMG, and BILLY GOATZ to achieve this.

Although the new STEELTOWN has yet to win a championship, they’ve come close several times and I think it’s only a matter of time.  Will they win it this year?  I am a little worried about their ability to finish in the playoffs, but they are definitely among the elite teams in the league so anything can happen.  Tip: watch out for the old guys.
