Devyn Swain Interview with PFFL Parents

After receiving a record number of registrations for the Spring 2016 season, the PFFL Youth League kicked off with an overwhelming turnout at the preseason combine. Currently the league has 150 kids signed up for this season. Our Lower Division (7-9 year-olds) and Middle Division (10-12 year-olds) are filled to capacity; however, we are still holding open enrollment for the Upper Division (13-15 year-olds).

Initially parents were concerned about the potential impact of the rain on the opening day festivities for their children. Fortunately, weather conditions improved and the combine went on as planned.

From the very beginning the league commissioner made sure to establish the rule that all players must jog instead of walk to each combine station. Although some players seemed to enjoy running between drills, there were others that looked exasperated as they tried their hardest to run with their groups. After a few practices, all of the youth league players should be in peak condition.

Given that enrollment for the Youth League is at an all-time high, there were plenty of new parents who were watching their kids give their all in the PFFL for the very first time. The general mood among parents of rookie players was that the league is well-organized. In addition several parents touted the PFFL for selecting coaches that are skilled at working with kids.

“I love it so far,” one proud mother said as she watched her son participate in defensive back drills. “I wish you guys would put me in,” she joked. Quiet as kept we have been trying to form a women’s division for flag football for the past few years. Perhaps some of the mothers would like to form teams so that we can make that happen.

Stay tuned.
