Nothing empowers young girls more than sports.  Sports are activities that girls have fun doing; exercise is a proven natural mood lifter.  Getting involved in sports is very important to the physical and mental development of young girls.

Here are some reasons girls should get involved in sports:

  • Girls who play sports do better in school.

The exercise you get from sports improves your learning, memory, and concentration. Improving these skills through sports leads to more success in the classroom, higher grade point averages, and better test scores.

  • Girls learn teamwork and how to set goals for themselves.

Sports are all about working together with peers and being a team player.  Girls learn what it takes to work hard to win games and achieve their goals.  This, in turn, teaches them how to be successful in life.

  • Girls who play sports develop strong social skills.

By playing sports, girls make many new friendships.  Girls form tight bonds with their friends, learning you must be cooperative and loyal with one another.  The friendships they make can help them stay motivated on tasks and give them a sense of belonging.

  • Sports are healthy for girls.

Sports give young girls the chance to get fit and maintain a healthy body weight.  They also offer long-term benefits.  Girls who play sports are least likely to smoke or develop diseases such as osteoporosis, heart disease, and breast cancer.

  • Sports boost the self-confidence of young girls.

Girls tend to have lower self-esteems than boys, but participating in sports helps them feel better about themselves.  Young girls develop a sense of personal satisfaction when they see themselves improve and achieve their goals.  Sports help motivate girls, leading to optimism and self-pride.

  • Sports help girls deal with pressure and stress.

Sports are known to lessen and alleviate everyday stress.  Why?  Girls feel happier when playing sports because exercise releases brain chemicals that improve a person’s mood.

  • Sports teach girls how to be a leader.

Participation in sports helps girls identify their strengths.  They learn early what it means to be a leader and can be a role model for others around them.

It’s a no-brainer.  Get your girls involved in sports at an early age in order to give them a chance to have fun and learn what it takes to succeed.
