"There’s a lot of talent out here.”

STEELTOWN continued its dominance of the PFFL by running through the gauntlet style playoffs, and defeating the HORSEMEN, 27-12, to capture the championship in its first season in the league.

The HORSEMEN had an interesting strategy in trying to stop STEELTOWN quarterback Chris Sullivan, but it was a strategy that failed.

“For some reason they didn’t rush me and we were just able to pick them apart,” Sullivan said. “I feel like if you give me seven seconds to throw, that’s way too much time.”

The game started with STEELTOWN flexing its “bend but don’t break” defense and making the HORSEMEN turn the ball over on downs after a significant drive. Sullivan capitalized on the defense’s momentum by hooking up with receiver Chris Conrad for the touchdown on the very first play of the drive.

The next drive for the HORSEMEN seemed like it would end the same way, but quarterback Dennis “Shorty” Wolford found Andy Krawchyk on a broken play for the touchdown. However, this was the closest the HORSEMEN would get all game.

STEELTOWN scored on its very next play when Sullivan called an audible and found Conrad once again for the touchdown. STEELTOWN went into the half with a, 14-6, lead.

The game became out of reach on the first drive of the second half when Sullivan found Dave Doyle for the touchdown, giving STEELTOWN a commanding, 21-6, advantage.

Sullivan admits that his team came into the playoffs as one of the favorites, but said he didn’t feel any added pressure.

“I think we were co-favorites along with REIGN,” he said. “I didn’t feel the pressure because we knew we just had to come out here and just play our game.”

STEELTOWN did just that all season long, and came out on top completing the undefeated season. This was the team’s first season in the PFFL, but it surely won’t be its last.

When Sullivan was asked if his team would return in the fall to defend its championship he had a simple response, but he knew it wouldn’t be easy.

“Yes, we’ll absolutely be back,” he said. “The difference between team’s like us and some of these up-and-coming teams is that we know how to make adjustments. Once these teams figure that out, they’ll be right there. There’s a lot of talent out here.”
