“I guess it feels pretty good to beat them and put them in their place a little bit.” DJ Douglas

One of the most intense rivalries in the PFFL added another chapter Sunday afternoon when REIGN and the BULLDOGS battled for the second time this season.

Unfortunately for the BULLDOGS, it was a chapter it wishes was never written as quarterback Mike Lucyk led REIGN to a dominating, 35-7, victory. The game ended early because of the “Mercy Rule.”

“I guess it feels pretty good to beat them and put them in their place a little bit,” DJ Douglas said. “But at the same time, if they can score on us I guess they can score on anybody.”

The BULLDOGS scored first as quarterback Eugene Smith converted a pass to Steel Conference leading receiver LC Trent on fourth down for the score. REIGN came right back and scored on a short touchdown pass from Lucyk to Sean Kennedy.

The BULLDOGS couldn’t get another scoring drive together, while REIGN scored on its following three drives.

“Experience tells it all, and speed definitely won the game for us today,” Douglas said. “We used to run short routes, but now with the speed we have we’re able to go deep.”

The game ended when Smith tried to complete a pass out of his end zone that was intercepted by Matt Lobaugh for the touchdown. REIGN converted on its two-point conversion attempt to complete the 28-point Mercy Rule.

REIGN is one of only two undefeated teams left in the PFFL, and when Douglas was asked about how his team stacked up against the other (STEELTOWN), he responded confidently.

“We’ve been playing STEELTOWN for the past five years now, so we know that team pretty well and actually think we match up well against them,” he said. “But I do think that’s our biggest opposition.”
