Prior to the start of the Summer 2015 season, the PFFL braintrust was uncertain about how youth players would react to the league’s offseason decision to combine all three age brackets into one division. How would the kids react? Would parents of younger players have concerns about their children playing with older kids?

All of those questions were answered this Sunday when the combined teams played each other for the first time in league history. In a competitive matchup between the PACKERS and the RAVENS, the RAVENS avenged their first loss of the season by beating the PACKERS 14-6.

While all of the RAVENS’ players contributed to the victory, Zymere was the game’s top performer. This young man, who is playing in his first season with the PFFL to the best of my knowledge, put his versatile skill set on full display against the PACKERS. Zymere caught two interceptions including one that he returned for a touchdown. In addition, he threw a touchdown pass to Anthony Orlando. Caleb Greenwald caught the extra point conversion.

Clearly Coach Jason Russell was at a disadvantage because his PACKERS lacked the size to deal with Zymere. Khalil “Munchie” Schaeffer was the most experienced player on the team but he still wasn’t tall enough to cover Zy.

Speaking of Munchie, the Youth League champion did complete a touchdown pass to Cole Markel. The rainy weather seemed to affect Markel’s receiving skills because he dropped a few TDs.

On defense, however, Markel was exceptional. After jumping a route intended for PACKERS’ Wide Receiver Daniel Calero, Markel intercepted Zymere’s pass. The turnover represented the only blemish on Zy’s stellar game.

As soon as Coach Russell gets his complete roster, the PACKERS should have at least one player to contend with Zymere.
