BEAR Witness to the RAVENS’ Greatness

Going into Week 3 the RAVENS were a team that was still trying to find its identity. Two weeks ago the BIRDS went 1-1 in two close games. While a split is better than 0-2 the RAVENS did not look like a team that would ever be able to challenge the top-seeded STEELERS in the postseason.

Fast forward to their matchup against the BEARS. In an epic display of offensive firepower, the RAVENS unleashed all of their skills on the BEARS in a 25-0 blowout.

As usual, Zymere Bibb was a beast at quarterback. By putting his most talented player under center, Coach Branden Ballard has solidified his squad’s offensive leadership. Zy threw two touchdowns and occasionally lined up as a receiver as a decoy.

From start to finish the RAVENS’ offense functioned on all cylinders thanks to multiple Youth League champion TaMaya “Cruise Control” Wolford. After uncharacteristically dropping an easy touchdown, Wolford responded by catching four passes including one for a TD. In addition, she intercepted a pass thrown by Anthony “Swag” Jagers and returned it for another score.

Sure-handed Wide Receiver Caleb Greenwald is quietly one of the best possession wideouts in the league. Every game he makes two or three clutch plays that sometimes go unnoticed. For example, Greenwald caught a touchdown on third down late in the game to give the RAVENS a commanding 19-0 lead. Then the young man put his final stamp on the game by scoring a rushing TD as time expired. Greenwald is definitely a rising star.

Finally, Anthony Orlando continues to impress me with his versatile skill set. Offensively he is a speedy receiver that can play from the slot or on the outside. On defense he is a relentless pass-rusher that often succeeds at sacking the quarterback.

I foresee that the RAVENS will be the team to beat in the playoffs.
