STEELTOWN Beat PINKLES Despite Turnovers

Sunday’s game against WP was no different as they dominated the PINKLES 26-13.

Since 2010 STEELTOWN has not won another championship in the PFFL. While their roster is chock-full of decorated veterans like All-Stars Chris Sullivan and Chris Conrad, the team has struggled against elite squads in the postseason like PRIMETIME and VAPOR. Fortunately for STEELTOWN they have consistently triumphed against weaker teams during this stretch.

Sunday’s game against WRENIS PINKLES was no different as they dominated the PINKLES 26-13.

For the most part Sullivan was an effective passer for STEELTOWN. The quarterback finished with an 82 percent completion rate for three touchdowns. Although his accuracy was superb, Sullivan did throw two interceptions which would have come back to bite his team had they been playing against stronger competition.

This season might be the season of missed opportunities for the PINKLES because they definitely had a chance to make this game competitive. Now playing without team founder Anthony Naret, the PINKLES seem to be struggling to replace his leadership. Also, Naret’s absence has meant that all of the QB responsibilities belong to Cory Blotzer. CB threw so many passes in the dirt, I almost thought that I was watching Donovan McNabb play. Specifically, the signal-caller completed just 11 of 23 passes for two TDs and two interceptions. Blotzer was also sacked once by All-Star Rusher Eric Quinn.

While the adage “a win is a win” certainly applies to STEELTOWN, I am concerned with the declining arm strength of their quarterback. Yes Sullivan can still drive the ball downfield; however, his downfield throwing is not what it was back in 2010. STEELTOWN will only go as far as Sullivan will take them. I guess that means that receivers Conrad and All-Star Jeremy Greenawalt will need to play like Randy Moss and Jerry Rice in order for their team to have a shot against the contenders.
