A comfortable 27-6 win

Despite a competitive first half of playoff football, the HORSEMEN emerged victorious with a comfortable 27-6 win over the scrappy FAT ONES. Early on the previously winless FAT ONES showed tremendous promise striking first with a touchdown on their opening drive. After going 0 and 10 during the regular season, the FAT ONES beat two teams on Sunday to qualify for the playoffs. Fueled by their first wins of the season, the FAT ONES were clearly riding off the momentum into their first-round matchup with the HORSEMEN. For one half, it seemed that the FAT ONES were going to pull off the biggest upset of the spring playoffs.

Unfortunately the Cinderella story died when the HORSEMEN decided to show up in the second half. Right after the FAT ONES' Joel Miller scored an early touchdown, the game turned on an interception by Dan Simbeck of the HORSEMEN. Simbeck's pick jumpstarted the HORSEMEN offense on their ensuing drive. Dennis "Shorty" Wolford hit All-Star Wideout Giuseppe Rosselli for the first HORSEMEN score.

After halftime, the HORSEMEN revved up their offensive engine as Shorty connected with HORSEMEN wide receiver Rich Gillcrese for a TD reception to give them the lead of 14-6. A few series later, the HORSEMEN executed a triple-handoff perfectly as Shorty connected with Rosselli (who was so open he could've moonwalked into the end zone) for their second touchdown collaboration. The score extended the HORSEMEN lead 21-6.

On the game's final play, the FAT ONES had one more opportunity to add some "pride" points to their tally. And once again they saw points slipping away from themselves as Gillcrese stepped in front of an errant throw from FAT ONES Quarterback Justin Ford and returned an interception for the final HORSEMEN points. According to Gillcrese, "their backs were up against the wall, down two scores and our coverage over the top was too good."

Although the FAT ONES came up short against the HORSEMEN, they earned the respect of their opponents. "I congratulate them on making it to play against us," Gillcrese said. "They kept it real close until the end of the game."

Beating the FAT ONES was a cause for the HORSEMEN to be optimistic. "I think we're the sleepers in this whole tournament," Gillcrese said. "Now that all of our team is here, it's gonna take a really good team to beat us."
