Despite a 12-7 lead at halftime the DARKWINGS imploded after halftime in a 25-12 loss to ALLIANCE. The winning team executed on both sides of the ball, scoring three touchdowns and shutting the WINGS out in the second half.

As a member of the BLACK KNIGHTS Skylar Jaquay was seldom used as a quarterback. Now that he plays for ALLIANCE, Jaquay is showing the entire league that he can win games as a starting QB. Against the WINGS the passer completed 65 percent of his passes for four TDs and one interception. In addition to Jaquay’s success through the air, the QB often extended plays by using his legs.

Offensively, ALLIANCE benefitted from the solid performance of their receiving corps. First, Nick “Backstreet” Carter led all receivers with six catches and two TDs.  Eric Oyler (three catches), Kyle Scheerer (four catches, one TD), and All-Star Shawn McCallum (one TD-reception) also played well.

Conversely, the DARKWINGS struggled mightily on offense. Public enemy #1 was the QB Mike Coleman. The passer dismantled any chance of winning after throwing three interceptions that led to points for ALLIANCE. Chris Hopper was the leading receiver for the WINGS with four catches and one TD.

On the defensive side of the ball, Scheerer was a man amongst boys. In total, the defensive back had four tackles and two interceptions. While offense is about skill, defense is a combination of effort and skill. To that end ALLIANCE has to be happy with the effort and skills that Scheerer has been demonstrating on “D.”

When Coleman is on the money I believe that they can hang with most teams; however, in this game he threw his team out of contention in the second half.
