Interview with Brooklyn Jones - SAINTS

On the Youth League’s biggest stage the SAINTS parlayed their regular season dominance into an exciting 19-6 win over the BEARS in the Middle Division championship game. Starting Quarterback Michael Sabo led the SAINTS to victory with his two-touchdown passing day.

In the first half of the game the Middle Division’s winningest team jumped out to a suffocating 13-0 lead. Multiple Youth League champion Grant “Head & Shoulders” Ganot ignited the SAINTS’ offense with a thrilling rushing TD. Then Sabo, a young man that has quietly progressed into an elite-level passer, scanned the field and connected with teammate Brooklyn Jones A.K.A. “The Brooklyn Way” for a second score.

“We tried our hardest and played hard,” Jones said about her team’s performance in the big dance. “We were just confident throughout the whole thing.”

The second half started out with some promise for the underdog BEARS. On their first drive QB John Lindgren marched the team down the field. Malik Marmon culminated the possession with a touchdown reception from Lindgren. When the SAINTS got the ball back Marmon outleaped a pass from Sabo intended for Grant and caught a toe-tapping interception before falling out of bounds.

Unfortunately for the BEARS they failed to capitalize off of the turnover. In the sequel to the play that resulted in Marmon’s interception, Sabo eluded a rusher and completed a sensational throw to Ganot for the game’s final TD.

The Brooklyn Way was almost a dream that never came true until a midseason trade between the SAINTS and PACKERS brought Jones to the champions in exchange for Kishaun Jenkins. As talented as this young lady is (especially in the open field) she was humble enough attribute her success to the leadership of SAINTS’ Head Coach Dennis “Shor D” Wolford, a seven-time champion.

“It’s an honor,” Jones gushed. “I was so happy to see that I could be on his [Shor D’s] team and I see that it paid off in the end.”

We all know that championship teams are identified by their multiple star players; however, no one wins a title without the support of impactful role players. In this game, several others quietly stepped up to make sure that the SAINTS emerged victorious. First, Shehleil Jones made his presence felt with a long reception to ensure that the BEARS would not get another possession before the first half had ended. Next TaMaya “Cruise Control” Wolford made a few receptions to keep the chains moving. Finally, the league’s most unassuming players, Harkamal Singh stopped several BEARS’ players in their tracks with his uncanny flag-pulling skills.

Although the SAINTS played without their starting rusher Cade “King Cade” Green, the young man was with the team in spirit.

CONGRATULATIONS SAINTS!!!
