Veteran Quarterback Caleb “Jaws” Jaworski and three-time Youth League champion Isaac Staresinic teamed up to lead the ‘BOYS on both of their scoring plays.

In their first game of the regular season, the COWBOYS’ defense shut down the BILLS in a nail-biter 13-12 victory. On the game’s opening drive COWBOYS’ Defensive Back Dominick Smith put the team on his back with a spectacular play. After drawing the tough assignment of covering BILLS’ star Wide Receiver Will “The Thrill” Lipscomb, Smith ran stride for stride with him on a deep route. As soon as Quarterback Jake Kozarian threw the ball, Smith crept underneath the pass and snatched an interception away from Lipscomb.

“I was playing linebacker and I read the quarterback’s eyes,” Smith said.

Veteran Quarterback Caleb “Jaws” Jaworski and three-time Youth League champion Isaac Staresinic teamed up to lead the ‘BOYS on both of their scoring plays. First, Jaws eluded an oncoming rusher and threw a strike to Staresinic for the first touchdown. Smith caught the extra point. Then Staresinic, who was successful running the football all game, took a handoff the distance for the COWBOYS’ second score.

On the BILLS’ sideline Coach Tim Ferguson was visibly upset with his team’s poor offensive showing. Kozarian and Lipscomb failed to connect on their deep routes the way they normally do. In particular, Lipscomb dropped two passes that hit him right in the hands. To his credit, the weather conditions at Cupples Stadium were unseasonably cold.

For a while it seemed like the BILLS would not even score until Kozarian hit teammate Gabriel Batista in stride for a TD. Lipscomb made the ball game even closer when he undercut an errant throw from Jaws and returned the pick for another score.
