Are you eating a well-balanced diet?

Athletic competition is physically demanding on the body, regardless of age. Kids who eat a well-balanced diet of healthy meals and snacks will have fuel they need to shine on the field. While all kids need to eat well, child athletes need an extra dose of nutrients to provide them with the energy they need to compete.  Most athletes will naturally intake the nutrients they need to perform, but making a conscious effort to eat healthy is always a good idea.

Calcium and Iron are two important minerals for an athlete’s diet. While Calcium fortifies the bones, Iron carries oxygen through the body. Proteins rebuild muscles damaged during exercise, but you probably get enough protein already and don’t want too much. Carbohydrates are a well-known source of energy, but there is no need to overload on carbs the night before a game.

The key to a successful diet for athletes is balance. Make sure you are giving your body what it needs to perform at its best without overloading it.
