At first both teams were entrenched in a defensive struggle that was indicative of how hard the players had worked to reach the big dance.

All season the TEXANS coached by Travis Muti have dominated their opponents. In fact the young flag phenoms went undefeated in the regular season, including a 19-12 win over the SAINTS in the final week. True to their record the TEXANS defeated the SAINTS once again 18-7 to win the seven-to-ten- year-old championship trophy.

At first both teams were entrenched in a defensive struggle that was indicative of how hard the players had worked to reach the big dance. Then TEXANS’ Running Back Braxton Allen broke the game wide open with his impressive rushing touchdown to notch the game’s first score.

Next ex-PACKER Michael Sabo contributed one of the most legendary highlight plays in championship history. On a triple reverse called by Coach Muti Sabo received the handoff and sliced and diced the SAINTS” defense en route to the TEXANS’ second scoring play.

After taking a commanding 12-0 lead I thought that the SAINTS were going to mail it in for the rest of the game. Instead I witnessed Aidan Minnock put the team on his back with on exhilarating play. The young man caught a pass and eluded several TEXANS all the way into the end zone.

Following the SAINTS’ score many of the team’s supporters were cheering louder than ever for their beloved players. That’s when youth league veteran Martin “Staring Contest” Staresinic stepped up for the TEXANS. Ignoring the pressure of capturing his first championship, Staring Contest took a handoff the distance to put the game out of reach for his opponents.

When I asked Staresinic how it felt to be a champion the young man replied, “It feels great because I’ve never won first place before.”

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TEXANS!!!
