One of the most overlooked factors of achieving a successful season in the NFL Youth League is the value of experience. Given the large number of first-year players on the SAINTS I was not surprised when the TEXANS beat them 24-12.

Ex-PACKER Michael Sabo knows what it takes to win and he proved it through his performance against the SAINTS. Sabo’s final stat line included three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving).

“They were just standing back and leaving the guys open,” Sabo said in reference to the reason why he was able to exploit the SAINTS’ defense.

Speaking of ex-PACKERS-turned-TEXANS, Martin Staresinic also showed some veteran savvy in this game. He rushed for one score and threw another to Sabo. On the latter play, Sabo received the snap, handed the ball off to Staresinic and he threw it back to Sabo for the touchdown.

Although they didn’t win the SAINTS put up a good fight against the “TEXAN Twosome.” Amelia “The Thriller” Whitacre and Ava “Playmaker” Deringor summoned girl power to notch the only scores for the SAINTS.

“They almost got my flags so I decided to go a different way,” Deringor explained about her touchdown run.

“Right before the person snapped I looked between two people and knew that I was gonna run,” Whitacre said.

While no one likes losing I think that this game serves as a teachable moment for the SAINTS. Once they improve their passing offense and gain more experience they’ll be tough to beat.
