I had the two best receivers out here

As a result of widespread absenteeism among the players in the PFFL Youth League, the Commissioner combined all four squads into two huge teams. In a close matchup, Team KRAWCHYK beat THE JASONS 19-15.

TEAM KRAWCHYK (coached by PFFL All-Star Andy Krawchyk) featured the dynamic talents of JETS’ Quarterback Jonathan Wellen A.K.A. “Michael Vick.” With his team down 15-13 to THE JASONS (coached by PFFL All-Star Jason Bialek and former PFFL player Jason Russell), Wellen seized the moment. He locked eyes with the JASONS’ QB and undercut a lob pass. Then Wellen caught the interception and sprinted past everyone to give TEAM KRAWCHYK the lead for good.

“I got a nice interception and I took it to the crib,” Wellen explained.

Clearly Wellen was the star of the game; however, he admitted that playing with a couple more offensive weapons was also instrumental in the victory. He said, “I had the two best receivers out here—Karate Kid [PATRIOTS’ WR Milan Lauscher] and Wild Thing [PATRIOTS WR Hayden Brook].”

Also, Brook and Wellen both rushed for touchdowns for TEAM KRAWCHYK. “They were leaving some holes in the defense and I saw a hole when I got that touchdown,” Brook said.

While THE JASONS came up short in a game that had the feel of an All-Star contest, the team made great plays nonetheless. Case in point, JETS’ Wide Receiver Jo Jo Butler connected with the RAVENS’ Saxon Bailey to give THE JASONS an early 6-0 lead. In addition CARDINALS’ Wide Receiver Joshua “Super Cleats” DiMatteo threw a touchdown to Butler and returned an interception failed extra point attempt for one point.

Even in a loss DiMatteo expressed how much fun he had in this unusual game. He said, “It was actually fun and it’s not all about competition.”
