This Saturday, the PFFL will open its inaugural fall season for the Youth League. Without question the spotlight will shine brightly on the RAVENS as they play their first games as defending champions. In the final game of the Summer 2011 season, the RAVENS edged the STEELERS in a 30-27 victory. While the STEELERS threatened a comeback victory, the RAVENS scored enough points early to preserve the win. For those of you that are just now tuning in, allow me to recap the RAVENS road to victory.

In a league with four other teams, the RAVENS tied the SAINTS for best overall record last season. Both teams had five wins and one loss.  While the two squads had matching records, the RAVENS proved multiple times that they were the league’s best team this past summer. For example, the RAVENS coached by THE U’s Dennis “Shor D” Wolford, executed an impressive 32-0 win over their biggest rivals the COWBOYS. Even more significantly, in their only matchup against the SAINTS, the RAVENS won 7-6.

Unfortunately, the SAINTS will not be playing this season to get revenge against the RAVENS. Despite the void that is sure to follow the SAINTS’ absence, there are several other storylines that we’ll be keeping an eye on throughout this season. First, after going 2-4 including their final heartbreaking loss to the RAVENS, the STEELERS will be playing for wins and pride. Similarly, the FALCONS will be looking to avenge their underwhelming 2-4 season this fall. Lastly, the PATRIOTS are new to the PFFL, so look for them to establish credibility early on.

Yes the RAVENS ran the league last season; however, they also have a target on their backs. The league will be watching to see how the young birds will respond to the pressures of being the “top dog.”
