WRECKING CREW Demolishes the FAT ONES

04/13/2010, 11:19pm (EDT)
By Devyn Swain

The WRECKING CREW and the Dallas Cowboys share several similarities. First both teams wear blue jerseys. Secondly, with the recent implosion of Texas Stadium , one can see the correlation between a wrecking crew and the crew that demolished the Cowboys’ storied football field. Finally, the WRECKING CREW has a star receiver nicknamed T-Rowe while the Cowboys used to employ another prolific receiver who’s nickname rhymes with T-Rowe but shall remain nameless given my disdain for his exit from my home team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tim “T-Rowe” Rowan and the WRECKING CREW ran over the FAT ONES in a 20-7 victory. Rowan was especially impressive, catching three touchdown passes for the boys in Carolina blue. Although “T-Rowe” sounds an awful lot like “T.O.”, the two receivers couldn’t be more different when it comes to post-game interviews. T-Rowe gave a basic explanation of why he was able to have repeated success against the FAT ONES. “Just open routes and little bit of speed to get past them,” was the way he described what happened.

While T-Rowe lets his play do the talking, teammate Steven “Doodles” Lewis does both. Lewis was particularly effective at moving the chains with screen pass receptions that often set up Rowan’s scores. Those catches aside, Doodles stole the show when he lined up under center for one play. Starting Quarterback Jeff Bollinger lined up as a slot receiver. After the snap, Doodles dropped back and then heaved a deep throw to Rowan who had successfully surpassed the FAT ONES’ defense to complete the most exciting score of the day. As promised, Doodles provided his assessment of why the play worked. “I bring a different style of play to the field because I can run and I have a little bit of an arm,” he said.

All jokes aside, Doodles praised T-Rowe for turning his unlikely throw into a highlight. “He’s a beast,” the talkative player said. “That’s why I threw the ball out there because he’s an animal and I knew that he would make a play.”

Rowan feels like his team is in great position to make a playoff run. “We have a strong team,” he said. “Four and one makes us look a little stronger. Hopefully when teams see that [4-1 record] , they’ll know it’s not gonna be a walkthrough for them.”
