Like Father, Like Son

03/29/2010, 11:11pm (EDT)
By Devyn Swain

Keith Durst and Josh Durst are father and son (no relation to Limp Bizkit rocker Fred Durst), respectively for VENOM. Perhaps a team’s keys to victory lie in family ties, because the Dursts teamed up to help VENOM beat the FAT ONES, 34-20. Josh and Keith have been playing flag football together for 15 years. Josh credits his father with teaching him “just how to catch the ball with basic fundamentals.”Josh added that his father also showed him “how to use your head and be in the right spot.” Obviously father knows best, because Josh caught 3 touchdown receptions.

In addition to the father-son connection, much credit should be given to Quarterback Rob Roberts. Roberts threw for 5 scores, including a beauty to Keith Durst. Roberts explained his great performance with simplicity: “People were open and I threw it to them.” While Roberts was proud of his team’s win, he cautioned about importance of staying focused on making the playoffs. “The regular season will be alright, but we’ll see how it works out in the playoffs,” he said.

Although the FAT ONES remained competitive throughout the game, they were no match for VENOM. Leading 14-6 at halftime, VENOM scored 20 more points in the remaining half. For the FAT ONES, Drew Williams, a free agent wide receiver who starred for THE NEW TEAM last year, starred for the FAT ONES. Williams caught two touchdowns including a diving grab in the back of the end zone. Also, FAT ONES Quarterback Justin Ford threw for 3 touchdowns.

Josh Durst starred for VENOM, but Keith had the highlight of the century when he snagged a pass in traffic from Roberts and ran through the teeth of the FAT ONES’ defense to finish the play with a touchdown. According to Keith, the reason why he was able to make such an improbable catch is a result of “playing with Rob for so long.” Keith continued, “He knows what I’m gonna do on busted plays.”

The father and son tandem was very successful this week. Keep an eye out for VENOM in the playoffs.
